The winner in the Master races is determined using handicap factors. The rowed times are multiplied by a handicap factor calculated for each entry based on the formula:
Handicapfactor (HCP) =
hcp_boat x hcp_age x hcp_gender
The handicap for age (hcp_age ):
- The average age of the boat is calculated, excluding the coxswain.
- Using the average age, the handicap is retrieved from the ‘Age factors by category’ table
The handicap for gender (hcp_gender):
- 1 is added for each male and 0.9 for each female:
- this sum is divided by the number of rowers, excluding the coxswain
